Çorum Municipality’s ‘Mother-Friendly City’ model presented in Europe
The ‘Mother-Friendly City’ vision implemented by Çorum Municipality was presented as an academic study at the 17th European Sociological Association (ESA) Conference held in Warsaw, Poland.
The research, titled ‘Seeing a Mother-Friendly City Through the Lenses of Fathers: Redefining Care and Fatherhood in Çorum, Türkiye’, was authored by Associate Professor Mehmet Ali Akyurt from Istanbul University and Elif Fatma Kaplan. Selected from over 3,000 applications, the study examined the municipality’s social services, including Women’s Cultural Centers and the Bedesten Family Life Center.
The findings indicate that the model extends beyond services for mothers; it aims to redistribute the caregiving burden, encourage caregivers to participate more actively in social life, and strengthen father-child relationships.
