Çorum officials and merchants harvest grapes in historic Eskiciler Sokak
In Çorum, Turkey, local officials and merchants gathered to harvest grapes from the vines decorating Eskiciler Sokak (Dar Arasta), a historic street approximately 70 years old. Recently restored by the Çorum Municipality, the narrow 1.5-meter-wide street has become a significant cultural and tourism landmark.
Mayor Halil İbrahim Aşgın participated in the harvest alongside local shopkeepers. The grapes will be shared among the merchants, distributed to those in need, and a portion will be delivered to Yusuf Ekmekçi, the son of Mustafa Ekmekçi, who originally planted the vines.
Mayor Aşgın noted that the merchants' decision to leave the ripening fruit untouched serves as a testament to the honesty of the local tradespeople and the enduring traditions of Ahilik culture. He emphasized that preserving such historical sites is essential for maintaining the city's spirit and connecting its past to the future.
