Oruro prepares for 420th anniversary and Carnival 2027 planning

The city of Oruro is preparing for its 420th anniversary with a series of civic and cultural events scheduled from late October through December. Local authorities have announced several infrastructure projects to coincide with the celebrations, including the development of a Cretaceous Park at Cerro San Pedro, a thematic Oasis Park, and improvements to school infrastructure and urban surveillance.

In preparation for the 2027 Carnival, Mayor Iván Quispe has convened the Association of Folklore Ensembles of Oruro (ACFO) and the Committee of Ethnography and Folklore to discuss the application of Law 602. Simultaneously, Governor Edgar Sánchez is working to increase the event's international profile by engaging diplomats and national authorities to participate in the festivities.

Additionally, Mayor Quispe has ordered enforcement operations to combat the irregular sale of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders. Authorities are targeting speculators selling gas canisters for 50 bolivianos, with measures including product seizures and criminal complaints against offenders.
