Argentina labor unions negotiate wages and face industrial challenges
Various labor negotiations and industrial challenges are unfolding across Argentina. In the textile sector, the Asociación Obrera Textil (AOT) has warned of factory closures and job losses in Catamarca due to increased imports and falling consumption. Additionally, in Río Grande, the AOT is contesting a proposal by Australtex to eliminate a 70% zone allowance, which workers claim would result in a loss of nearly 900,000 pesos per month.
In the transport sector, the Federación de Camioneros reached an agreement with logistics and transport chambers for a cumulative 9.9% wage increase between September 2026 and February 2027, including a 1,200,000 peso extraordinary bonus paid in installments.
Meanwhile, several municipal governments have reached wage agreements. In Chacabuco, authorities and unions agreed to a series of remunerative increases and staggered bonuses through early 2027. In Nueve de Julio, a 3% increase and a 4% rise in basic salary were established to help preserve purchasing power against inflation. In other regions, the Sindicato de Trabajadores Municipales reported new commitments regarding benefits for heavy vehicle drivers and health workers, including adjustments to shift differentials and the introduction of stress-related leave for high-risk roles.
