Orvieto event promotes UNESCO recognition for Italian lace
The fourth edition of the “Terre e Trame” event, held in Orvieto at the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo, highlighted a collective effort to secure UNESCO recognition for Italian lace-making. Organized by GAL Trasimeno-Orvietano, the gathering aimed to unite various communities dedicated to preserving and transmitting traditional thread arts.
Participants included several Umbrian lace-making communities, such as the “rete del modano” from San Feliciano, the “pizzo d’Irlanda” from Isola Maggiore, and the traditional lace of Orvieto. The event also featured the community of Bolsena, illustrating a historical connection where Orvieto’s lace-making techniques were passed to Bolsena through local artisans. This shared heritage emphasizes the importance of safeguarding intangible cultural assets across different geographic and administrative boundaries.
