Orvieto highlights Gothic heritage and disability rights

The Italian city of Orvieto is highlighting both its historical landmarks and ongoing social challenges. The city is noted for its dramatic position atop a tuff cliff and its significant architectural heritage, specifically the Duomo di Orvieto. This Gothic masterpiece, which began construction in 1309 under Lorenzo Maitani, features intricate bas-reliefs and a monumental facade.

In addition to its cultural sites, Orvieto recently hosted its second Disability Pride event. While the demonstration saw participation from citizens, families, and local officials, it has also sparked calls for political action. Local representatives are urging the administration to fulfill a previous commitment to implement a PEBA (Plan for the Elimination of Architectural Barriers) to ensure greater accessibility and rights for people with disabilities within the city.
