Osaka advances major urban redevelopment and arena projects

Major urban redevelopment projects are advancing in Osaka, focusing on the Namba and northern city areas.

In Namba, Kubota, Mitsui Fudosan, and Kanden Real Estate Development have signed a basic agreement to develop the former Kubota headquarters site. The project, named ‘Kubota field’, will feature a multipurpose arena called ‘(tentative name) Kubota LaLa arena’ with a capacity of approximately 12,500 people. The complex will also include hotels and commercial facilities, aiming for an opening in 2032 or later to boost tourism and local activity.

Simultaneously, Osaka City is moving into a concrete implementation phase for the redevelopment of the Juso and Awaji station areas. Nippon Sekkei has been selected to conduct surveys regarding the use of approximately 12 hectares of land created by the reorganization of the Shibajima Water Purification Plant. This phase will detail land use, facility scales, and transportation connections. The plan aims to integrate four nearby stations and enhance urban functions in Juso, anticipating future railway connections to Shin-Osaka.
