Osaka region implements food support for families amid rising costs
Various initiatives are addressing food insecurity among families in the Osaka region amid rising prices. In Takatsuki City, local authorities have decided to distribute 5kg of locally produced rice to citizens of high school age and child-rearing households. This program is being funded independently by the city without national subsidies.
In the South Osaka area, the NPO Kirin Kodomo Oendan provided free food and daily necessities to 1,400 single-parent households during the summer vacation period. The support included rice, pasta, canned tuna, seasonings, and household items like detergent. The initiative aimed to alleviate the financial burden on families during school holidays when school lunches are unavailable. Surveys conducted by the NPO indicated that 70% of participating households reported increased difficulty in securing food compared to the previous year.
