Japan retail sector sees new store openings and commercial developments

Various retail and commercial developments are underway across Japan. Cosmos Pharmaceutical has filed notifications to open three new “Drug Cosmos” locations in April 2027, situated in Toyohashi and Nishio in Aichi Prefecture, and Uozu in Toyama Prefecture.

In Osaka, Mitsubishi Corporation Urban Development and Okumura Corporation are developing “Machinoma Hirano,” a four-story neighborhood shopping center near Hirano Station. Scheduled to open in spring 2027, the facility will feature Life supermarket on the first floor and Yamada Denki on the second floor, with approximately 320 parking spaces.

Seasonal food events are also being held. Hanshin Umeda Main Store is hosting the “Autumn Hokkaido Market,” featuring approximately 60 vendors offering seafood, wagyu beef, and local beers. Additionally, a Kumamoto food promotion is taking place at the same department store, featuring local specialties and the character Kumamon to support regional revitalization.
