Osakidetza to offer salary bonuses for medical tutors
Osakidetza, the Basque Health Service, is planning to introduce salary bonuses and increased free time to retain MIR medical tutors. The Department of Health intends to update current regulations to better recognize and value the teaching role of physicians within the public health network.
Negotiations with unions to revise Decree 34/2012, which governs the functions and compensation of MIR program tutors, are scheduled to formally open in September. The goal is to reach an agreement before the end of the year, following a previous agreement with the Sindicato Médico de Euskadi (SME).
This initiative follows the incorporation of 438 new medical residents this year, filling 100% of the available positions. These new staff members will primarily reinforce Primary Care and areas with difficult coverage, including Family and Community Medicine, Pediatrics, and Emergency Medicine.
