South Korea crime: Infant murder and mother-in-law killing reported

Two separate violent crimes in South Korea have drawn significant attention. In Osan, a 40-year-old man was arrested for the murder of his 2-month-old daughter. The suspect admitted to hitting the infant's face multiple times because she would not stop crying. Police noted that the suspect attempted to cover his tracks by remotely deleting home camera footage from his phone immediately after the child's death was confirmed. An autopsy has been requested to determine the exact cause of death.

In a separate incident, a man in his 20s was arrested for killing his mother-in-law and kidnapping his wife in Seoul. The suspect, who was involved in a marriage annulment lawsuit and had a history of domestic violence, reportedly attacked his mother-in-law in Songpa-gu before fleeing with his wife in a vehicle. The pair was located seven hours later in a mountain area in Yangyang, Gangwon Province, where the wife was found safe.

The kidnapping incident has sparked criticism of police procedures. Reports indicate that despite being aware of the suspect's domestic violence history, authorities failed to execute search warrants on three occasions because the suspect was not at his residence. Additionally, the victim's emergency smart watch was reportedly powered off at the time of the crime, and a new restraining order was still pending court approval when the attack occurred.
