Oscar De La Hoya discusses Garcia-Mayweather and lightweight unification

Promoter Oscar De La Hoya has addressed several potential matchups involving his fighters and high-profile veterans. Regarding rumors of a bout between Ryan Garcia and Floyd Mayweather, De La Hoya stated he would be willing to facilitate the fight if it is a “real fight” involving sanctioned professional stakes, rather than an exhibition, to ensure Garcia can defend his WBC title.

In the lightweight division, De La Hoya expressed interest in title unification following Floyd Schofield’s victory over Lucas Bahdi to capture the vacant WBA title. While initially hesitant to match Schofield against Golden Boy’s own WBC champion William Zepeda—noting the business implications of having two separate champions—De La Hoya eventually agreed to the possibility of a unification bout between the two fighters.
