Oscar De La Hoya says Garcia‑Benn fight cannot proceed without Golden Boy
Oscar De La Hoya, chairman of Golden Boy Promotions, stated that the reported September 12 bout between Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn cannot move forward because his company has not been approached, despite Garcia’s contractual obligations with Golden Boy. He emphasized that “I have yet to be approached about making this fight” and that any agreement must respect existing contracts.
De La Hoya also noted that fans are not demanding a Garcia‑Benn showdown, expressing a preference for a Garcia‑Devin Haney rematch, which he called “a much bigger fight.” He criticized Saudi promoter Turki Alalshikh’s role in selecting Benn and questioned the ability of Zuffa‑linked promotions to attract U.S. viewers, noting Paramount’s interest in a Garcia fight due to low viewership of Zuffa events.
