Oscar D’León to receive Hispanic Heritage Legend Award

The Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) has announced that Venezuelan musician Oscar D’León will receive the 2026 Legend Award during the 39th annual Hispanic Heritage Awards. The honor recognizes his career of more than 50 years as a leading exponent of salsa and Afro-Caribbean music on an international scale.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place on September 10, 2026, at Orchestra Hall in Minneapolis. D’León joins a distinguished group of past laureates, including Celia Cruz, Rita Moreno, Isabel Allende, Juan Luis Guerra, and Carlos Santana.

The award follows a history of recognition for the artist in the United States, including official honorary days in San Francisco, New York, and Miami, as well as the Keys of the City from Los Angeles. Established by the White House in 1988, the Hispanic Heritage Awards are among the highest distinctions granted to the Latino community in the United States.
