Oscar Piastri claims victory at Barcelona Grand Prix as Max Verstappen receives penalty

Oscar Piastri secured his fifth win of the season at the Barcelona Grand Prix, extending his lead in the drivers' championship. Lando Norris finished second and Charles Leclerc third, while Max Verstappen dropped to tenth after officials imposed a ten‑second penalty for causing a collision with George Russell.

Piastri described a puzzling race, saying he still has no answers for the grip and tyre‑wear problems that left him far behind his teammate despite the strong result. He noted that the issues persisted throughout the event, preventing him from challenging for the podium despite benefiting from the retirements of Andrea Kimi Antonelli and Leclerc.

The penalty to Verstappen followed an incident on lap 55 in which he made contact with Russell after being ordered to let the Briton pass, prompting a stewards’ investigation. The decision reshaped the final order, allowing Nico Hülkenberg to move up to fifth and altering the points distribution among the top contenders.
