Oscar Piastri retires from Hungarian Grand Prix after collision with Carlos Sainz

Oscar Piastri started near the front of the grid at the Hungarian Grand Prix, took the lead early and looked set to challenge for victory. While attempting to lap Carlos Sainz, the Williams driver failed to yield despite multiple blue‑flag panels, resulting in a collision that damaged Piastri’s car. The incident led to a gearbox failure and forced the Australian to retire with 13 laps remaining, leaving him without points.

Sainz later argued that the blue‑flag system had not been applied correctly and declined to apologise for the clash, expressing frustration with his situation at Williams. The race ended Piastri’s strongest performance of the season and the Formula 1 calendar now moves into a summer break before resuming at Zandvoort.
