Tolhuin officials negotiate debt settlement amid criminal complaint
The Obra Social del Estado Fueguino (OSEF) and the municipality of Tolhuin are negotiating a plan to regularize outstanding debts regarding social security contributions. One central proposal involves the construction of a new municipal building in Tolhuin, which would serve as an OSEF headquarters including offices and a pharmacy, to settle the consolidated debt.
However, the situation has escalated into a legal conflict. Matías Rodríguez, president of the Tolhuin Deliberative Council, has filed a criminal complaint against Mayor Daniel Harrington. The complaint alleges the retention of funds, breach of official duties, and embezzlement, citing a debt of approximately $1.1 billion pesos owed to the Council and OSEF.
Technical working groups are scheduled to meet to address the accounting and administrative aspects of the debt regularization, with the goal of formalizing an agreement during October.
