OSFEM seeks legislative reforms to extend audit timelines in Mexico
The Superior Oversight Body of the State of Mexico (OSFEM) is preparing a legislative initiative to modify the state's Superior Oversight Law. The proposal aims to extend the timeframes available for reviewing public accounts, digitize files, and streamline administrative procedures.
Liliana Dávalos Ham, head of OSFEM, stated that current timeframes are insufficient for reviewing documentation from state agencies, municipalities, and public organisms. Proposed changes include increasing the deadline for audited institutions to respond to observations from five to ten days, and extending the auditor staff's review period from ten to fifteen days. The initiative also seeks to harmonize procedures with the Federal Superior Audit Office and prevent administrative delays of up to 120 days when entities fail to deliver documentation.
