OSIB National Meeting in Belo Horizonte Elects New Leadership, Examines AI for Priest Formation
The Organização dos Seminários e Institutos do Brasil (OSIB) held its National Meeting for priest‑formers in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, from July 27 to 31. About 240 priests from seminaries and institutes across Brazil gathered to discuss the impact of artificial intelligence and digital culture on vocational discernment and priestly formation, referencing CNBB documents on synodality and missionary formation.
During the event the new OSIB presidency for the 2026‑2030 quadriênio was elected, with Pe. Marcos Tiago da Silva of the Diocese of Luz chosen as president and Pe. Edvagner Tomaz da Cruz of the Diocese of Jales as vice‑president. Sessions covered AI as a tool or obstacle, communication in the Church, and the challenges posed by the digital era to future priests.
