Osijek-Baranja County launches rent-to-own housing program

Osijek-Baranja County has launched the first phase of a housing program titled ‘Naša Slavonija i Baranja – naš dom’ (Our Slavonia and Baranja – our home) to assist young families with housing and combat emigration.

The program involves the construction of 52 residential units across 20 settlements at 46 locations. This includes 43 family houses and three multi-residential buildings. Construction is expected to begin next year, with design work already underway.

A unique feature of the model is the rent-to-own option. Users will sign long-term lease agreements for at least ten years, with the possibility of extending for an additional 20 years. After the initial ten-year period, residents gain the right to purchase the property. Crucially, the total amount paid in rent during the first ten years will be deducted from the final purchase price.

County Prefect Nataša Tramišak stated that the goal is to create conditions for young people to start families and plan their futures in the region. Local officials noted that interest in the program has already exceeded the current number of available homes.
