Osijek Cathedral undergoes extensive restoration works

Restoration efforts are continuing at the Cathedral of St. Peter and Paul in Osijek, Croatia. Recent activities include using large cranes to remove damaged ornaments from the 94-meter-high bell tower for restoration.

Workers are also performing demanding repairs on the cathedral's roof to protect the interior and valuable ceiling frescoes from water damage. The roof has suffered from age and previous damage from the Homeland War, leading to temporary metal coverings that now require permanent replacement.

Other ongoing projects include the restoration of stone carvings on the western facade and the two towers above the sanctuary. Additionally, experts are addressing issues with the original 1897-1898 floor ceramics, which have been cracking due to moisture from the ground and air. While current repairs to the floor are temporary, a full renovation is being planned for a later phase to avoid damage from scaffolding used during interior fresco restoration.
