Osijek to transform 1721 cavalry barracks into new City Library

Osijek Mayor Ivan Radić has unveiled plans to transform a historic 1721 cavalry barracks in the Tvrđa district into a modern City Library. The project, valued at approximately 12.1 million euros, aims to revitalize a protected cultural monument that has fallen into disrepair.

The new facility will serve as a cultural and social hub, featuring reading rooms, a children's department, a cafe, and a conference hall that will also function as an exhibition space. Upon completion, the project will allow Osijek to regain an independent City Library, as the existing combined facility will transition to serving solely as a University Library.

Construction permits have already been issued, and the next phase involves public procurement. The project is supported by non-refundable funds obtained through the ITU mechanism.
