OSIPTEL implements new rules for telecommunications plan changes in Peru

The Supervisory Agency for Private Investment in Telecommunications (OSIPTEL) has implemented a new regulation regarding the use of public telecommunications services in Peru. Effective as of June 27, the new rules allow users of mobile telephony, internet, or cable television services to choose the specific date their plan migration becomes effective.

Previously, changes to tariff plans were only executed at the start of the next billing cycle. Under the new framework, subscribers can request a specific date for the new plan to take effect, provided the chosen date is not later than the start of the next billing cycle. If a change occurs mid-cycle, the proportional charge will be reflected in the first bill issued after the migration.

Operators may only reject a migration request under specific circumstances: if the new plan involves a higher rate and the user fails a credit evaluation, if the service is currently suspended, or if the requested plan lacks coverage in the user's area.
