Mexico and Peru report significant mobile telecommunications updates

In Mexico, the Comisión Reguladora de Telecomunicaciones (CRT) is implementing a mandatory mobile line registration process to combat fraud and extortion by eliminating anonymity. As of early September, over 9.5 million lines ending in '1' have been successfully linked, representing approximately 83.4% of that specific block. This registration has brought the national total of linked lines to 80.9 million, or 67.4% of the estimated total. Users with suspended lines ending in '1' can reactivate service immediately by completing the process online or in person. The CRT has established a staggered schedule for other number endings: lines ending in '2' and '3' face deadlines on September 15 and September 30, respectively.

In Peru, OSIPTEL reported that the mobile market reached 39.64 million active lines at the close of the second quarter of 2026. While Lima and Callao account for 37.86% of these lines, the remaining regions hold 62.14% of the market. Leading operators in Peru include Claro with a 33.39% market share, followed by Bitel (24.68%), Entel (22.72%), and Movistar (18.95%). There has been a notable increase in monthly contract modalities, which grew by over 11% compared to the previous year.
