Osiris de León promotes seismic risk prevention in San Francisco de Macorís

Geologist Osiris de León led a conference titled “Seismic Risks: San Francisco de Macorís and Cibao Valley” to promote earthquake preparedness and prevention in the region. The event, held at the San Francisco de Macorís Municipal Hall, aimed to educate the public, institutions, and families on how to act before, during, and after a seismic event.

De León recommended practical safety measures, including identifying safe zones in homes and workplaces, establishing and marking evacuation routes, conducting drills, and maintaining emergency supplies such as water and canned food. He emphasized that fostering a culture of preparedness is essential to reducing the consequences of natural disasters.

The Duarte Provincial Health Directorate participated in the session, with Director Dr. Ceneida Antigua noting that education is fundamental to protecting lives and improving the organized response of health institutions during emergencies.
