Osita Chidoka urges Abia State to prioritize institutional building

During the 35th anniversary of Abia State's creation, former Minister of Aviation Osita Chidoka called on the state government to prioritize building strong, enduring institutions over mere physical infrastructure. Chidoka, founder of the Athena Centre for Policy and Leadership, argued that true state capacity is defined by the ability to translate policy into results through competent, disciplined personnel and administrative systems.

Chidoka emphasized that visible projects, such as new buildings, are insufficient if they lack the necessary personnel, equipment, and maintenance systems to remain functional. He cited lessons from nations like Singapore and Rwanda, noting that merit and accountability are essential to transforming political promises into sustainable development.

Reflecting on the state's history, Chidoka also praised the administration of former Governor Orji Uzor Kalu. He stated that Kalu’s tenure was a defining period that gave Abia State significant national visibility and political relevance during the early years of Nigeria’s Fourth Republic, though he noted that this momentum declined in subsequent years.
