Oslo proposes free public transport for children under 13
The Oslo City Council has proposed making public transportation free for all children under the age of 13. The initiative, described by City Council Leader Eirik Lae Solberg as “really happy news for Oslo's families,” is estimated to cost 60 million NOK annually.
Transport Councilor Marit Vea noted that the change would simplify travel for school classes and allow children traveling alone to use trams and buses without needing a smartphone for digital tickets. While the city aims for this to be a permanent solution, the council stated that the program's longevity depends on continued financial support from the state regarding subsidized monthly passes for adults.
