Oslo roundtable discusses history of Serbian internees in Norway

A scientific roundtable titled ‘Among Friends’ was held in Oslo to discuss the history and memory of Serbian internees in occupied Norway during World War II. Initiated by the Serbian Ambassador to Oslo, Jasmina Mitrović Marić, the event brought together Norwegian and Serbian researchers, historians, and public figures.

Norwegian historian Knut Flovik Turesen presented research regarding the suffering of prisoners from the former Yugoslavia who were forcibly brought to Nazi camps in Norway, noting that Serbs constituted the largest percentage of these victims. The discussion included contributions from various experts, such as historian Nenad Milenović, Professor Michael Støke, and Ronald Rusanes of the Blood Road Museum.

The participants concluded that objective historical research and the publication of facts regarding these sufferings serve as a contribution to a culture of peace and mutual understanding, aiming to prevent the revision of historical facts and ensure such tragic events are never repeated.
