Oslo shooting attack on LGBTQ+ community commemorated
In June 2022, a heavily armed individual targeted people in the streets of Oslo in an attack specifically aimed at the LGBTQ+ community. The incident resulted in two deaths and numerous injuries near the London Pub and Per på Hjørnet.
In response to the trauma and fear caused by the attack, musician Anders Rogg, a long-time advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, released ‘Sangen om slekta’ (The Song of the Kin) in collaboration with lyricist Jørgen Strickert. The song serves as a source of comfort for those feeling isolated or afraid following the violence.
Inger Kristin Haugsevje, who led Oslo Pride at the time, has also reflected on the crisis management required when the Pride parade had to be canceled due to the immediate threat and the subsequent need to communicate with a grieving community amidst media pressure.
