Oslofjord environmental groups demand stronger government action
The Besteforeldrenes klimaaksjon (Grandparents' Climate Action) is calling for stronger government intervention to save the Oslofjord, which they describe as being in a critical state due to nitrogen overfertilization, loss of fish populations, and pollution from debris.
While a comprehensive action plan for the fjord is currently out for consultation, critics such as Ole Tom Røed of the Oslofjord Group argue that the government's proposal is insufficient. They contend that the plan lacks legally binding measures and contains weak goal formulations, as it relies on encouragement and grants rather than mandatory obligations for municipalities and other actors. One potential positive aspect noted is the consideration of transferring authority over shoreline dispensations from municipalities to the State Administrator to better protect the 100-meter coastal zone.
Separately, the municipality of Tysvær is addressing demographic shifts, noting an increasing need for elderly care services alongside a declining youth population. The local government is planning service restructuring to manage resources more effectively through digitalization and increased home-based care.
