Oslofjord Varme begins expansion of Hamangfjellet energy facility

Oslofjord Varme has commenced the expansion of its underground facility at Hamangfjellet in Bærum. The project involves constructing a new mountain hall, measuring 40 by 12 by 9 meters, located 20 to 25 meters below the surface.

The expansion aims to increase the capacity to produce district heating and cooling by utilizing energy from wastewater flowing through the VEAS tunnel under Sandvika. The existing facility, operational since 1987, currently uses three large heat pumps to produce approximately 23 MW of heat and 18 MW of cooling.

According to Yngve Solvang, CEO of Oslofjord Varme, the project will provide more local energy and alleviate pressure on the electrical grid, allowing electricity to be used more efficiently elsewhere. The construction start was marked by Bærum Mayor Lisbeth Hammer Krog.
