Osman Gazi platform reaches milestone with flare tower installation

Preparations for Turkey’s first floating production platform, Osman Gazi, have reached a critical milestone at Filyos Port. A 96-meter-high, 260-ton flare tower was successfully installed using heavy-lift cranes. This safety component is designed to manage hydrocarbon gas by safely venting and burning it during emergencies to maintain controlled pressure within the facility.

The deployment of the Osman Gazi platform in the Sakarya Gas Field is expected to double daily natural gas production from 9.5 million cubic meters to approximately 20 million cubic meters. This increase aims to meet the natural gas needs of roughly 8 million households using domestic resources from the Black Sea.

Energy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar stated that the platform is scheduled to depart for its duty station by the end of September, with full commissioning planned for the final quarter of the year. The government’s long-term strategy includes commissioning a second floating production platform by 2028 to increase daily production to 45 million cubic meters, potentially serving 17 million households.
