Osman Gazi floating platform to double Black Sea gas production

Turkey’s first floating production platform, named Osman Gazi, is scheduled to depart from Filyos Port in Zonguldak on Saturday, October 17, to begin a 20-year mission in the Black Sea. The platform will be stationed at the Sakarya Gas Field, approximately 170 kilometers from the coast, to process and transmit natural gas to the national grid.

The deployment aims to double daily natural gas production at the Sakarya Gas Field from 9.5 million cubic meters to 20 million cubic meters. This increase is expected to expand the number of households utilizing domestic natural gas from 4 million to 8 million and provide an annual economic contribution of approximately $3.5 billion to the Turkish economy.

The massive structure measures 298.5 meters in length, 56 meters in width, and 29.5 meters in depth. It features 21 separate facilities, 11 of which were rebuilt specifically for the Sakarya Gas Field's requirements. Preparation and maintenance involved approximately 7,000 personnel, the installation of 642 kilometers of electrical cabling, and the mounting of a 260-ton, 96-meter-high flare tower. First gas production is projected to commence in early 2027.
