Osman Korkut Kanadoğlu faces investigation over bar association speech

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation into Professor Osman Korkut Kanadoğlu, a candidate for the presidency of the Istanbul Bar Association. The investigation follows a speech Kanadoğlu delivered during the 128th Ordinary General Assembly of the Istanbul Bar Association.

During his speech, Kanadoğlu criticized certain judges and prosecutors for failing to comply with Constitutional Court decisions and for making arbitrary arrest decisions. He stated that such judicial actions were being monitored and reported.

Kanadoğlu has defended his remarks as an exercise of freedom of expression, asserting that his comments were made in his capacity as a legal scholar and academic to highlight issues regarding the judiciary's adherence to constitutional rulings. He maintains that his speech contained no criminal elements.
