Osmangazi Municipality develops sustainable transport for historical center

Osmangazi Municipality is collaborating with international experts through the CIVITAS program to develop sustainable transportation solutions that preserve the historical fabric of its city center. In cooperation with the Bursa Metropolitan Municipality, experts from cities including Munich, Bologna, Florence, and New York have conducted field inspections to evaluate urban mobility dynamics.

The technical assessments focus on pedestrian movement, public transport integration, accessibility, and traffic density. The initiative aims to balance daily transportation needs with the protection of cultural heritage by studying successful models such as pedestrianization, traffic restrictions, and mobility hubs implemented in cities like Florence. Serkan Cebeci, Manager of Research and Development at Osmangazi Municipality, noted the importance of the partnership with Florence to adapt global best practices to Osmangazi’s unique urban structure.
