Osmangazi Municipality launches waste medicine collection project
Osmangazi Municipality in Bursa has launched a ‘Waste Medicine Collection’ project to safely manage expired or unused medications. Managed by the Directorate of Climate Change and Zero Waste, the initiative aims to prevent environmental pollution and protect public health.
Specialized collection boxes have been placed in pharmacies throughout the Osmangazi district. Teams collect the medications from these boxes and transport them to a Waste Delivery Center for storage before they are sent to specialized disposal facilities for safe destruction.
Rüveyşa Burça Sütçüoğlu, the municipality's Director of Climate Change and Zero Waste, emphasized that medications should never be thrown into household trash, sewers, or sinks, as doing so poses risks to both the environment and human health. The project seeks to increase public awareness regarding the correct disposal of household waste.
