Osmaniye farmer harvests antioxidant-rich aronia berries
In the Bahçe district of Osmaniye, Necla Akdoğan has begun harvesting aronia berries from her highland garden in Örencik village. Following her son's suggestion four years ago, Akdoğan planted 400 aronia saplings across 2.5 decares of land.
Aronia is known for its high antioxidant content and has seen increasing production in Turkey. Akdoğan processes the harvest into various products, including dried berries, fruit juice, and jam. She reports a yield of approximately 400 to 450 kilograms this year.
Akdoğan sells her aronia jam for 400 Turkish Lira per half kilogram. She noted that the fruit is popular among consumers looking to strengthen immunity and contributes to her family's economy through alternative agricultural production.
