Osmaniye Mayor pays 87,000 TL to clear local grocery debts

Osmaniye Mayor İbrahim Çenet has continued the Ottoman-era tradition of 'zimem defteri' by paying off 87,000 TL in outstanding grocery debts for families in need.

Following a video call with local grocer Ercan Solak in the İstiklal neighborhood, the mayor identified several families struggling to settle their credit accounts. The tradition of 'zimem defteri' involves paying off the debts of those in need anonymously to preserve their dignity. Solak expressed gratitude for the initiative, noting that the funds helped several families who were unable to meet their financial obligations.
