Ospedale Maggiore di Parma opens new child neuropsychiatry department
A new neuropsychiatry department for children and adolescents has been inaugurated at the Ospedale Maggiore in Parma. The facility includes 12 beds and is staffed by a multidisciplinary team of approximately 40 professionals providing 24-hour care. This is the third such facility in the Emilia-Romagna region, following those in Rimini and Bologna.
The department serves the Emilia Nord area, including Modena and Piacenza, covering a population of over 300,000 young people. It aims to manage acute mental health phases with short hospital stays, averaging 15 days and lasting up to 45 days, while involving families in the care process.
During the inauguration, Michele de Pascale, President of the Emilia-Romagna Region, raised concerns regarding national healthcare funding. He noted that Health Minister Schillaci previously indicated a need for an additional 5 billion euros in the national health system to maintain essential services, questioning whether current government financial measures will meet this requirement.
