Osteoarthritis management and the role of nutritional support

Osteoarthritis is a leading cause of chronic pain and disability in older populations. Because damaged joint cartilage cannot regenerate itself, the body must manage the condition long-term. Research indicates that osteoarthritis often occurs alongside various comorbidities.

Nutritional support plays a significant role in managing the condition. Due to increased inflammation in the joints, nutrient requirements often rise. Vitamin C is particularly important as an antioxidant to combat oxidative stress and free radicals caused by the disease. Vitamin E also serves as a beneficial antioxidant for patients. While the condition is currently incurable, maintaining adequate movement and proper nutrition can help manage symptoms and preserve mobility.
