Osteoporosis prevention focuses on clinical integration and weight-bearing exercise

Medical experts and healthcare facilities are emphasizing proactive measures to combat osteoporosis, a condition that affects one in three women and one in five men over the age of 50.

At the Riaz Health Center in Switzerland, the HFR and the medical society RésOs have collaborated to optimize patient care. By integrating HFR’s fracture pathway with RésOs’ densitometry services, the center provides bone mineral density testing and specialized consultations in a single location. This coordination aims to improve early identification of at-risk individuals and provide personalized follow-up to prevent fractures and loss of autonomy.

Complementing these clinical advancements, orthopedic surgeons highlight lifestyle interventions as critical for bone maintenance. Dr. George Tselentakis notes that while nutrition like calcium and vitamin D is important, physical exercise is the most powerful tool for preventing bone density loss. He recommends weight-bearing exercises that force the skeleton to work against gravity, as bone is a living tissue that responds to mechanical stress by strengthening its structure.
