Ostia ex-colony occupation sparks tension and calls for eviction

Tensions have escalated regarding the illegal occupation of the former Vittorio Emanuele III colony in Ostia. Members of the Gioventù Nazionale group reported being intimidated by foreign nationals while attempting to film the state of decay surrounding the building. The situation required intervention by the Carabinieri to restore order and ensure the safety of the group on public property.

The occupation of parts of the complex has persisted since 1993. According to the Prefecture of Rome, there are currently 30 unauthorized occupants, distinct from 17 individuals granted residency due to housing emergencies. While the site hosts public services such as the Elsa Morante Library and municipal offices, political representatives from Fratelli d'Italia are calling on Roma Capitale to establish a clear timeline and administrative plan for the complete recovery of the public property.
