Ostia faces opposing security and anti-fascist protests

In Ostia, two opposing mobilizations are scheduled for September 18 near the former Vittorio Emanuele Colony. The political movement Forza Nuova has announced a ‘walk for security,’ citing local issues such as crime, drugs, and urban decay. The group has called on residents to help restore order in the area.

In response, leftist political groups and unions, including Ostia Antifascista and the student coordination group CSL, have organized an anti-fascist demonstration at the same location and time. The CGIL Roma Centro Ovest Litoranea union has joined the counter-protest, arguing that security should be addressed through public services, housing, and healthcare rather than through unauthorized patrols, which they claim violate constitutional principles regarding public order.
