Ostia hit-and-run: driver charged after striking French cyclist

A 55-year-old Italian man has been charged with hit-and-run and failure to render aid after striking a French cyclist on the Via Litoranea in Ostia. The incident occurred around 2:30 PM, when the victim, a tourist on vacation, was struck by a Jeep and thrown over the guardrail.

The victim was rushed to San Camillo Hospital, where they remain hospitalized. Following the collision, the driver fled the scene without stopping to provide assistance.

Local police from the X Gruppo Mare identified the suspect by analyzing surveillance footage from the Sala Sistema Roma and cameras along the Litoranea. Officers located the vehicle at a residence in the Infernetto area. Although the driver initially claimed the damages to the Jeep's hood and windshield were caused by vandalism, investigators concluded the damage was consistent with the collision. The vehicle has been seized.
