Ostra Sanctuary celebrates 300 years since Madonna della Rosa coronation
The Sanctuary of the Madonna della Rosa in Ostra is celebrating the 300th anniversary of the sacred image's papal coronation. The ceremony, which occurs every 100 years, honors the small effigy of the Madonna holding a rose.
The site originated from a rural shrine that gained prominence following reported miracles in 1666, including a white lily that reportedly remained fresh for months. These events led to the construction of a temple and sanctuary that has become a major pilgrimage site in the Marche region, second only to Loreto in local significance.
Visitors to the sanctuary continue to practice traditional devotions, including collecting water from a spring located near the altar. The historical site also houses various ex-voto offerings and unique artifacts, such as two Turkish flags from 1917.
