Ostrava Airport negotiates regular cargo route to Baku

Leoš Janáček Airport in Ostrava is in discussions with Silk Way West Airlines regarding the establishment of a regular cargo flight connection to Baku, Azerbaijan. Czech Transport Minister Ivan Bednárik has expressed support for the initiative, noting that a regular route would provide Czech exporters with additional global access.

While the airport has previously operated charter flights to the Azerbaijani capital, a specific start date and flight frequency for a scheduled service have not yet been determined. Currently, the airport operates regular cargo routes to Leipzig and Cologne, alongside charter flights to China.

Cargo transport remains a priority for the airport's development. Between January and September, the facility handled over 16,000 tons of cargo, representing a 4% year-on-year increase, though specific monthly figures have shown fluctuations.
