Ostrava animal shelter acquires new ultrasound via public donations

The animal shelter in Ostrava has acquired a new ultrasound machine, funded through public donations. This new equipment allows for immediate on-site diagnostics, reducing the need to transport animals to external veterinary clinics, which in turn minimizes stress for the animals.

The device will be used for non-invasive imaging of soft tissues and internal organs, including the liver, kidneys, spleen, and bladder, as well as for heart examinations and monitoring pregnancy. It is expected to improve preventive care by detecting issues such as tumors, cysts, or inflammation before clinical symptoms appear.

City officials and shelter leadership expressed gratitude to the donors, noting that community support remained strong even following the floods in September 2024. The shelter currently cares for 54 animals and has facilitated over 11,700 adoptions during its 28-year history.
