Ostrava assault: Cyclist attacked after attackers mistook Silesian colors for Ukrainian symbols

Kuba Heisig, a cyclist from Chorzów, was brutally assaulted in the center of Ostrava, Czech Republic, on the evening of Friday, September 11. The attack occurred during his charity cycling trip, ‘Rajza dla Marceliny’, which aimed to raise funds for his partner’s cancer treatment.

According to reports from the Cargo Familia group, the assailants reportedly mistook Heisig’s yellow-and-blue headwear, which featured the text ‘GŌRNY ŚLŌNSK’, for Ukrainian symbols. Before the physical attack, the group allegedly shouted insults at him, calling him a ‘Ukrainian and Banderite’.

Heisig was hospitalized for medical examinations following the beating. While he has since been discharged and returned home, the assault forced the premature termination of his 800 km journey through Silesia and the border regions of the Czech Republic. The incident has been reported to the Czech police, though no official information regarding arrests or the identities of the attackers has been released.
