Ostrava to build new bridge over Ondřejnice river

The city of Ostrava will begin construction of a new pedestrian and cycling bridge over the Ondřejnice river in September. The new structure will replace a wooden bridge near Proskovice and Košatka that has been closed since January of last year due to poor technical condition.

The new 29-meter-long and 3-meter-wide bridge is designed to be barrier-free and capable of withstanding a hundred-year flood. The project also includes the renovation of approximately 93 meters of the connected cycling path, featuring steel railings, stone paving, and concrete curbing. To ensure safety, fixed obstacles will be installed to prevent vehicle access while allowing cyclists and pedestrians to pass.

The total cost of the project is estimated at 9.5 million CZK, with the Moravian-Silesian Region contributing 3 million CZK. Construction is expected to be completed by spring 2025, with the goal of opening the bridge for the upcoming cycling season.
