Ostrava University of Third Age Engages Seniors in Medical Exams
The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ostrava has launched another year of its University of Third Age, offering courses for people aged 55 and over. The programme includes lectures on disease prevention, first aid, healthy lifestyle and memory training, as well as visits to medical facilities such as the university hospital and emergency services.
Senior participants also take part in the academic community, with some acting as standardized patients during the practical state examinations for medical students. Dean Rastislav Maďar highlighted the energetic involvement of the seniors, while faculty spokeswoman Hana Hanke noted that the programme, running since 2010, aims to help seniors stay active and respond correctly in emergency situations. The year concludes with a graduation ceremony where participants receive certificates.
